Leanore C. Jackson

leanore jackson 4Leanore C. Jackson, 58, was born in Salisbury, Maryland on August 4, 1957 to Evangelist Gertie Strasser (Phillip) and the late Albert C. Dix, Sr. (Alice).  On Saturday, August 15, 2015, the Lord called His child home to receive her crown.

Leanore was educated in the Somerset County public school system and graduated from Crisfield High School in 1975.  She continued her education at Delaware Technical Community College in Wilmington, where she studied nursing.  She then moved to Port Norris, New Jersey which became her second home.  At the age of 22, she moved back to Crisfield and gave birth to Nykia.  After coming home, she worked as a seafood worker for many years until she joined Mrs. Paul’s Kitchen.  In 1990, she gave birth to I’Kea and began working at Salisbury Rehabilitation & Nursing Center shortly thereafter.  In 1996, her baby girl Asia was born.

Throughout her career of nearly 25 years at the Salisbury nursing home, she held many positions including certified nursing assistant/geriatric nursing assistant (CNA/GNA), specialist, mentor, certified medicine aide (CMA), and scheduling manager.  Later in her career, she also attended Wor-Wic Community College for several years and worked at Chesapeake Manor Assisted Living as a CMA.

Leanore’s smile was one of a kind that touched everyone that came in contact with her.  She was affectionately known by many as “Nin”, “Ninny”, “Aunt Nore”, and “Pookie” – a name she lovingly gave to most.  She loved helping people.  Her devotion was not limited to helping the elderly through her work, but also to caring for her family and friends.  So much so, she opened her arms and embraced Katrina as her fourth daughter.

She enjoyed playing bingo and slot machines, eating out, and spending time with her friends and family, especially at family reunions, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  For many years, she volunteered at the Highway Holiness church feast – a tradition she has now passed down to her daughters.  She was a member of the Light of Crisfield Temple #86 and often worked as a barmaid for the Crisfield Pride Lodge #194.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her parents; four daughters, Dr. Nykia Jackson (Brooks), Katrina Bacon (Ellsworth, Jr.), I’Kea Douglas and Asia Jackson; three grandchildren, Courtney, Zion and Mackenzie; five brothers, Anthony Jackson (Crystal), Sylvester Jackson, George Dix, Kirk Jackson, and Reginald Jackson; one sister, Emily Dix; one uncle, Hezekiah Jackson, Jr. (Sandra); two aunts, Mary and Lottie Jackson;  two godchildren, Juana Leonard and Janae Bowyer; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, stepmother, three brothers, Albert C. “Russ”, Jr., Gregory and Marlon “Little Phil” Dix and her grandmother, Nettie Cottman.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, August 22, 2015 at St. James United Methodist Church in Westover, with a viewing one hour prior. Pastor Dorothy Holden will be the Eulogist.  A viewing will also be held 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, August 21, 2015 at Highway Holiness Church in Crisfield where ceremonial rites will be performed by Light of Crisfield Temple #86 at 7:00 PM.

Interment will be held at Mt. Peer Cemetery in Marion Station.
