Frances Cellest Johnson-Niskey, 102, of Princess Anne, Maryland peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Hartley Hall Nursing and Rehab, Pocomoke, Maryland.
Born August 20, 1922, in Upper Hill, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Johnny Johnson and Mamie Horsey Johnson.
She received her education in Somerset County. In her early years she was employed at Campbell Soup Company in Salisbury, Maryland.
Frances began her Christian Walk at an early age, she was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church. She loved God and trusted Him greatly.
She was married to Marcellas Niskey for 47 years and had two children, Diane Morris, and Robert Niskey.
Frances loved listening to Gospel music and watching DVDs of Gospel Singers. Her passion for cooking was one of the greatest ways she showed love. She had a heart for giving and helping anyone that was in need. She never wanted to see anyone hungry always ready to cook someone a meal even if it meant less for herself. Frances was especially known for her homemade yeast rolls and sweet potato pies. If you didn’t take food, she would often end her conversation with “bless you”, I’m going to send you something. She took pride in telling the story of how she won a beauty contest and sang with others at the White House as a teenager. She was overjoyed when she was celebrated on August 20, 2022, for her milestone of 100 years of life. Frances was amazed that she was the oldest resident in Princess Anne. She received a Proclamation from the town of Princess Anne, a plaque and recognition from the NAACP.
She leaves cherished memories with her grandchildren, Vernita (Jay) Johnson, of Delmar, Maryland, Kaveen (Garnett) Coulbourne of Mardela Springs, Maryland, Kendal (Shalonda) Niskey of Apollo Beach, Florida, Rochelle Morris of Princess Anne, Maryland, Kevin Niskey of Mardela Springs, Ellwood Morris, Jr. of Princes Anne; 20 great grandchildren; 21 great great grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Johnson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marcellas Niskey, two children, Diane Morris and Robert Niskey; two granddaughters, Melissa Morris and Iralee Anderson; one great grandson, Kyle Jones; four brothers, Harrison Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Windfred Johnson and Felton Johnson, Sr. and two sisters, Consola Milbourne and Nelly Perry.
Frances leaves behind a legacy of love, giving, and kindness that will continue to inspire all of those that knew and loved her dearly. As she would say “One day at a time.”
May her soul rest in peace.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Saint Andrews United Methodist Church, 8242 Upper Hill Road, Westover (Upper Hill), Maryland with a viewing one-hour prior.
