Barbara A. James

BarbaraBarbara A. James, 74, of Marion Station, fell asleep in death on Monday, August 29, 2016 at Alice B. Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield. Born August 2, 1942 she was the eldest child of the late Sylvester and Gladys Bivens.

She was educated through the Somerset County Public School System. Prior to her illness, she was employed with Paul’s Kitchen, Byrd Seafood and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. After her years of employment, she enjoyed public witnessing as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Through her heartfelt teaching of God’s Kingdom, she always found comfort in Revelations 21:3-4 “With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with them, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

To cherish her memory, she leaves; six children, Anthony Evans, Jr., Kenneth Evans (Denise), Lillian Ward (Howard, Jr.), William Evans, Cassandra Evans, Crystal Jackson (Anthony); one son-in-law, Stephanza Allen Williams, three stepdaughters, Aretha, Brenda and Monique; one stepson Clarence; 29 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren, two brothers, Sylvester Bivens (Pat) and Leon Bivens, Sr. (Sandy); one sister, Gloria Taylor (Calvin), one aunt, Minnie King; a special cousin, Annie Kenny; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles James, Sr.; the father of her children, Anthony Evans, Sr.; one daughter, Valerie Williams; one stepdaughter, Lorraine James; one stepson, Charles James, Jr.; two sisters, Stella Bivens and Joyce Torney and one brother, George Bivens, Sr.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 3, 2016 at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 31281 Curtis Chapel Road, Westover; a viewing will be held 6-8 PM Friday at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne.

Interment will be in Mt. Peer Cemetery, Marion Station.
