Hutt

Mary Virginia Smith Collins-Hutt was born on April 9, 1945 to the late George, Sr. and Evelyn Watson-Smith. She was ushered into eternal rest on Monday, May 14, 2018 at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Mary was educated in Somerset County Public Schools and graduated from Carter G. Woodson High School in 1963.  She received a Certificate for Administrative Assistant from Woodbridge Technical College in 1992.

Mary and the late Charles T. Hutt, Sr. were united in holy matrimony on January 1, 1977.  Together they cultivated a bonding relationship among themselves, their families and community. She was widely known in Princess Anne, for taking care of the elderly in her community and working in the St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church’s soup kitchen. Mary was adopted by many of the young people in the community as a nurturing mother or grandmother.

Over the course of 25 years, Mary worked at the Princess Anne Shirt Factory in Princess Anne, Maryland and Jodie’s Shirt Factory in Fruitland, Maryland. She could put a “mean” press on a shirt.  She later became the head cook of the Washington Hotel in Princess Anne, MD.  Her muskrat and her dumplings became a favorite menu item (Mary’s Muskrat and Mary’s Dumplings). She was also famously known for her lemon pound cake, pineapple coconut cake, potato salad and corn pudding which were a staple for every holiday for both family and friends.

Mary Hutt was a loyal and dedicated member of St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church. She was affectionately known as Diane Carroll for her elegant church attire.  Her favorite song was “One Day at a Time”. Mary believed that God was not only her protector but also her caretaker, thus The 23rd Psalm was her favorite scripture.

Mary was actively involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She frequently attended their athletic events and school activities.  In her past time, she enjoyed watching Lassie, Young and the Restless, and sports. Her hobbies were sleeping, cooking and shopping.  She never missed her hair or nail appointments.

She leaves to cherish two sons, Milton Collins, Jr. (Cathy) and Charles Hutt, Jr. (Mirza); three daughters, Monfredia Bailey (Jerry, Sr.), Clarissa Redding (Andre’), and Monica Hutt (Daron); 15 grandchildren, Darrin, Janae’, Tiarra (Nick), Jerry, Jr., Talaia, Frederick, Dionte’, Shacora, Tabitha, Madison, Jamira, Jaeliana, Da’Mariya, Jae’Mir, and Jae’Lyn; 13 great grandchildren, Amaya, Janiya, Di’Anya, Makenzie, Jordan, Marcus, Jaevin, Noah, Dionne, Gabriella, Emani, Mason, and Dashaunae; five brothers, George, Jr. (Mary), Nathaniel, Sr. (Deborah), Cecil, Sr. (Vanessa), and Lamont Smith, and Daniel Collins (Charmaine); four sisters, Ardenna Williams, Recie Hope (Vernon), Reba Jones (Armstead, Sr.) and Minta Johnson; two brothers-in-law, Alfred Hutt (Olivia) and Bishop A.
