(Deacon) Willie Monroe Ames

Deacon Willie Monroe Ames, son of the late George Robert Ames Sr. and Henrietta Lucille Ballard-Ames was born on December 23, 1949. He departed his earthly home on Friday, September 8, 2023.

Deacon Ames received his education in the Somerset County Public School System.

Deacon Ames was employed with Mrs. Paul’s Kitchen, Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home, and Peninsula Regional Medical Center. He retired as a Nursing Assistant. Willie then began working for Anthony E. Ward Funeral Home where he assisted with many duties for 15 years.

Deacon Ames met and married the love of his life, Brenda Faye Ames (“Honey” as he always calls her) on September 11, 1971. They have been married for 52 years. His wife accepted Christ in December of 1977. Willie told Brenda “I am going to get saved too”. In January of 1978, he did just that and has walked with Jesus Christ ever since.

Deacon Ames attended Charity Holiness Church with his family and later they joined Highway Holiness Church. He has been a member of Highway Holiness Church serving in many capacities over the years such as singing in the choir, driving the church van, assisting in baptisms, cleaning the church, opening the church doors before service, making sure the heat or air is on, cutting the church grass, removing the trash from the church and any role a Deacon is responsible to fulfill. He believed in being on time for church and he’d rather be early and sit in the parking lot than walk in the service late. He loved his church and church family.

One of Deacon Ames’ favorites was his Ford pickup truck and his trailer. He just didn’t use the truck for his own transportation, he loved to help people whether it was giving rides, hauling their trash, cutting their grass, and moving their furniture from one home to another. He loved to laugh and he had an amazing sense of humor. He believed in the power of prayer and could pray anytime that he was asked. He would always say “I must do what thus saith the Lord”.

Willie loved to sing and you knew when he testified he had a certain way of standing when he was about to add a song with his testimony. His favorite songs to sing are Satisfied with Jesus, I am a living testimony, The Lord has brought me from a mighty long way, Just another day that the Lord has kept me (the slow version) and I’m gonna stay under the blood. Deacon Ames sang from his heart. When he rejoiced you would hear him shout as loud as he could “Hallelujah” over and over again. His favorite scripture is Psalm 24.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Minister Brenda Ames; two daughters, Fayetta Lake (Tim) of Salisbury, MD, and Minister Willetta Walker (Sidney) of Clarksburg, MD; six grandchildren, Timothy Lake, Jr. (Erica), Latasha Lake, Rynisha Lake of Salisbury MD, Kiara Ames (Devon), Kenyon Ames and Ke’Asia Ames of Clarksburg MD; one bonus granddaughter, Sydni Anderson of Frederick, MD; two great grandchildren, Diara Best and Devon Best Jr; one brother, Reverend Doctor George Robert Ames, Jr. of Cambridge MD; one sister-in-law, Missionary Patricia King of Princess Anne, MD; two brothers-in-law, Donald Waters of Crisfield, MD, and Elder Robert King of Princess Anne, MD; godchildren, play children and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eunice Duncan.

II Corinthians 5:8-We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. The Lord has opened his arms and received Deacon Willie Ames.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday,  September 23, 2023 at Highway Holiness Church, 27127 Old State Road, Crisfield, MD with a viewing one hour prior.  A viewing will also be held 6-8 PM Friday,  September 22, 2023 at the Church.   Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Crisfield.
