Lewis Henry Blackwell was born on February 15, 1944, in Northumberland County, Virginia, to Lewis R. Blackwell and Effie Conston Toulson. He entered eternal rest on October 5, 2025, at the Charlie Norwood Veterans Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.
Known affectionately by many names, including Uncle Lew, LB, Pops, and Blackwell, he touched the lives of all who knew him. He loved playing pool, pinochle, and spending time with family and friends.
Lewis attended school in Somerset County and held various jobs in the area, primarily as a truck driver, before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1963. He dedicated 17 years of his life to serving his country with honor and pride. After leaving the Air Force, he continued to serve his community through his work at PSEG and several local bars in New Jersey. During this time, he became an active member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners, achieving significant accomplishments and advancing through several levels within those organizations.
After relocating to Evans, Georgia, Lewis became a devoted member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, attending services regularly until his health declined.
Lewis leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and friendship that will be cherished by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His spirit will continue to live on in their hearts.
He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters: Monfredia (Jerry) Bailey of Evans, GA; Teniah Reynolds of Elgin, SC; and Keiko Blackwell of Upper Marlboro, MD; one son, Christopher (Antianette) Johnson of Sumpter, SC; nine grandchildren: Jerry (Shamiria) Jr., Aaron, Taliah, Takiya, Taniya, Christopher Jr., Jah’nia, Chris’jen, and Mason; one sister, Maefield Blow; one goddaughter, Gwen (Larenza) Brown; seven nieces and nephews: Marie, John (Marla), Earnest, Shirley, Beulah, Thomas (Patricia) Jr., and Kevin (Sharonda); and a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends.
