Ervin C. Harris, affectionately known to many as “Tang,” age 68, of Sanford, North Carolina, was born on August 8, 1957, to the late Eugene and Annie D. Harris.
Ervin was raised in Manokin, MD, where he attended Somerset County Public Schools.
In his early years, Ervin relocated to California, where he began his career as a professional tow truck driver. He excelled in his work and became a trusted and reliable resource for local police departments. In 1993, Ervin moved to Sanford, North Carolina, where he embarked on a new career as a professional welder and mechanic with Sanford Contractors. He retired in 2015, but his passion for mechanics and welding never stopped. He continued to use his skills to fix cars and lawnmowers for family and friends, always eager to help others in any way he could.
Ervin deeply loved his family and frequently returned to Maryland to visit. His first stop was always the graves of his beloved parents. He enjoyed eating wild game such as deer, muskrat, and raccoon, just to name a few. Ervin also had a passion for motorcycles and once rode from California to Maryland and back. Known for his lively spirit, he loved entertaining others with his fancy and unforgettable dance moves—especially his signature dance split. Above all, Ervin was known for his kind heart and his love for helping family, friends, and anyone in need.
Ervin leaves to cherish his memory eight siblings: Lutina Harris of Princess Anne, MD; Annie Brown of Columbia, MD; Callie Brown of Allen, MD; Chirley Harris of Salisbury, MD; Mary Harris of Princess Anne; John Harris of Moreno Valley, CA; Ada Harris of Salisbury, MD; and Consoriller Gilmore of Cameron, NC.
He also leaves special friends Ken and Nancy Foushee of Sanford, NC, who became his North Carolina family, along with a host of nephews, nieces, and friends in MD and North Carolina.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Annie Harris, and his siblings Henry “Alabama” Harris, Nellie Harris, and David Harris.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 30683 Hampden Avenue, Princess Anne, Maryland with a viewing one-hour prior. A public viewing will be held 2:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday, January 30, 2026, at Anthony E. Ward, Jr. Funeral Home in Princess Anne. Interment will follow at John Wesley (Bowland Hill) Cemetery in Princess Anne, MD.

I am going to miss Ervin. I worked with him many years at Sanford Contractors. He was a good worker, a good man, and a good friend. He could fix just about anything. I pray he is resting comfortably in Jesus’ arms.
